80 (diameter) x 150 (length) cm
Rotating mechanism of mirror-polished brass, stainless steel, glossed wooden lettering, contained in a clear acrylic casing.
The Palindrome was commissioned by the Victoria & Albert Museum and installed at the museum tunnel on the 8th of July 2010.
The work features the V&A monogram, designed by Alan Fletcher, made up of three independently revolving parts that de-contructs and reconnects the V&A logo with each half turn, forming a palindrome legible from the front and backside. The wheels that rotate the logo produce a gentle ticking sound reminiscent of a Victorian clock.
